This tall majestic welded steel sculpture is about shape and space.
Very often finding a scrap from a cutting of multiple patterns produces an opportunity for playing with negative space . I love the way these shapes interact with each other and the spaces between them.
I supported these delicate strips vertically on a center pole, with attention to the shielding of sharp edges.
The top slips snugly into the very heavy base, stabilizing and giving the sculpture height. Modular pieces are practical for transport.
The resulting composition is a strong, graceful presence. This is one of my classic favorites. |
