My Assemblage - Many ways to process

Susandra making sculpture

Collections
I work only from my studio at home. I no longer weld. I store metal treasures outside, in my tiny yard. My inside workroom stores all the rest.

Planning
A lot of time is spent around the inspiring pieces. I don't start assembly until I have worked out some structural support possibilities.

Joining
"Engineering" and time are required to explore the not-so-obvious possibles.

Mechanics
Nuts, bolts and screws are obvious.

Wire
I reuse copper construction wire, stripping off the plastic insulation.

Rivets
Need holes drilled to join two flat pieces of metal. Durable bond, & copper rivets are available.

Glues
Epoxy is my most frequent choice. Here I am using it as a sealer on some wrapped wire. Epoxy putty is great for trapping a piece through another piece. I don't want the glue to discolor or to draw attention to itself. E6800 is a silicone formula for UV exposure. Acrylic is joined with a solvent.
