The impetus for this sculpture was the shiny, light weight, gear-like, flat ring. With this as my inspiration, I set about figuring how to mount the ring so it could move enough to chime.
The main support was a found object already formed into an open box with window-like divisions of space. This gave it a spacious, open look.
I made the base a large light weight rectangle for balance and stability.
I found a sturdy triangle from my boneyard, that was just the right size for the ring.
I welded it to the supporting “box”.
I gathered two other light weight round parts of appropriate size and trapped them loosely in a bracket I made attaching them to the apex of the triangle.
The last accent I added is the set of two free-hanging, curvy wires, which I hung on either side of the box.
This unique creation plays with space, visual contrasts, lines, shapes and musical sounds It’s an engaging asset to the garden!
