I had been collecting empty welding wire spools. I challenged myself to make a column of them.
I mounted this on a weighted base which raised the height to about 72”. I liked the completed sculpture, but it tended to blend into the garden, not showing itself well. I put wind-chimes inside.
Six years later, I decided to redesign it. I began playing with various ways I could enliven it. I cut off the raised base, and made a top holding an amber glass disc. I then hung slices of amber acrylic inside from a chain.
These changes gave a new look and shape to the cylinder. The colored accents added focus and motion. It is stable, portable and easily moved.
This piece represents transition in my sculpture: lighter, smaller and with
colored accents.
I like this unique, accented-by-color creation. It can hold its own on display, inside or outside.
