The inspiring piece of this is a vintage automotive grill. As it sometimes is with very special & extraordinary “found objects”, I took a long time finding the most satisfying use for it. I tried many combinations. What I wanted was a feeling of flight & height, simplicity, and stability.
I made the central support from a long narrow piece of grating. This gives space visually and prevents resistance to air movement.
I used a very heavy base and a method of slipping in parts to attach and hold the central support vertical. It is modular and more easily transported.
I later used the same method to adda disc under the base to increase stability.
The result is a unique creation that is majestic and elegant in a garden.
