This is about shape, line and contrast. The gray metal is quite visible, and contrasts with its rusted steel base.
Rigid squared lines of the matrix interact with the circular. Verticals of repeating patterns have trapped hoops.
I rarely use galvanized metal. The zinc coating creates toxic fumes when being welded. When galvanized pieces are in my sculpture, it is because I feel they are exceptional. I take extra safety precautions in working with the gases formed.
I designed this piece as an abstraction. The title suggests an urban building, surrounded by two very large circular bodies in eclipse.
This medium sized piece represents a shift in scale and weight. Its compact shape fits comfortably into an outside or inside display.
