I was given this wonderful group of thick, twisted flat bands. This was the impetus for the whole sculpture.
First, I needed to coax them to relate to each other. Then decide on an orientation for the resulting shape.
To give this stability, I made“feet” for the various touch-down places.
The disc added weight stability and a visual contrast to the motion implied in the bands.
The air-born tips of the bands needed to be made smooth, with edges rounded for safety.
This strong and powerful sculpture is simply elegant. Truly a unique creation for the garden. |
