My husband planned a video of my sculpting process. This piece of abandoned culvert was perfect for the project.
It was layered with mud. After cleaning, it looked static. I decided to cut out a panel with my angle grinder. That opening brought new energy, exposing more of the patterns, texture, and brokenness that I liked.
A panel of acrylic mirror inside to bring in more light and to show more of the texture. For an accent, I made added an assembly.
I chose a light weight, wide-spread piece for the base.
In 2017, I added a large ring behind the sentry. This greatly improved the composition. I like the way these distinctly separate parts come together with an energy of its own. It has new presence and intimacy. |
