I love circles and the patinas on metal, especially the greens & blues formed on copper. As it sometimes is with very special & extraordinary “found objects”, I didn’t want to prematurely “spend” this copper treasure. Over time, I tried many different matches from my boneyard.
Finding the hoop that made the perfect fit and could support it was the key to the creation process. I cleaned, drilled and polished it, then got to play with various patinas.
I chose various metal discs that had also been also saved as special treasures, and attached them as accents to the disc.
I made a heavy base and mounted the hoop on it, using my old friend, the cotter pin. The assemblage swivels & sways, and has a different design on front and back.
The result is a medium sized, simple altar, that can visually create a sense of sacred space, inside or out.
