This piece brings together some elements of my interests: repeating verticals & transparent colored acrylic. Many of these materials were gifts from friends.
I cut apart three green acrylic goblets, sanded and polished the cut edges. I vertically arranged nine stainless flatbars, angling them on a stainless, patterned disc base (from the front wheel of a motorcycle).
The verticals are supported on the top by a stainless circle, which I notched to hold each angled vertical. I welded both ends of each vertical to secure a stable upright enclosure.
I drilled two holes through the stacked green accents and the top circle, to hold the stack in the center. I spaced the stacked layers with large nuts, and attached the stack with nuts and bolts through the acrylic and stainless circle.I bought the acrylic tube and hung it in the center.
The resulting sculpture has strong verdant look. It is an elegant medium sized vertical sculpture. Inside display prevents water spots on the acrylic. |
