I wanted to feature this very fragile network of springs. It needed support as well as transparency. The "tricky"part was not to damage it with welding.
I enjoyed this challenge!
I took the shape as it was and "trapped"it. I made a two brackets and set the spring network in them. Then I could design a base that could be welded to the bracket, never welding the springs.
This sculpture has energy from many elements : vulnerability/sturdiness, detailed/plain, spaciousness/solid, transparent/blocked.
The curve of the base invites looking around to views of other sides.
I favor this versatility, being able to view it from any direction is more
interesting. There can be a play back and forth with the screen of springs, the accents and base.
This simple, unique sculpture is gracefully pleasing. It lives well inside or outside. |
