This gestural sketch is a tiny jewel. Since I love light, reflections, I play with dichroic glass (containing multiple micro-layers of metals or oxides). The colors shift depending on the angle of view. The main characteristic of dichroic glass is that it has a particular transmitted color and a completely different reflected color, (as certain wavelengths of light either pass through or are reflected.) This causes an array of color to be displayed.
I treasure any bits of it I find.
I used an acrylic mirror which doubles the images and brings more light into the play; a scrap of crazed clear acrylic for texture and contrast; and a distressed, rusted bit of metal.
I think this little jewel of a piece does well in a space where close visual contact is possible. This sculpture can be displayed as shown or inverted. It is appropriate for wall or table, inside. |
