The coil of aluminum tubing was a high interest treasure that had to wait for its potential to evolve. I wanted to use it in an abstract design, rather than semi-realistic form.
I made the base for another piece, but retired the piece (AKA cannibalized it) and had saved the base for a better use.
These two came together in my boneyard, and worked their way into the shop. I liked the contrast of simple, rusty, heavy, textured lines, with the detailed, aluminum, light, smooth lines. I was excited by this perfect match.
They had moved into the active planning, “how to”
priority stage. The top would, draw the eye upward, and be calmer energy.
The engineering was fun. This joining of dissimilar metals would involve “trapping”. To be portable meant keeping weight down, and making modules. The components’ orientations can be varied.
I am quite pleased with this majestic sculpture! |
