This sculpture combines metals that were movers in their former lives: paddles, blades and gears.
The ruffled deflectors/paddles, are from inside hot water tanks. They were to aid circulation of the water, and now occasionally respond to wind.
I have been intrigued by their wonderful lines and great patination. They are seriously corroded.
I first introduced two of these pieces suspended in a very simple sculpture: Twisted Sisters, 2012.
Now they are with another pair to make a foursome of dancing paddles.
They are suspended from two sets of blades, and topped with a graduated set of gears. This is supported by a 2" pole mounted on a very heavy 1/4"x 26"diameter disc.
It was most satisfying figuring how to assemble these chosen pieces. They all have come together well. |
