This sculpture honors agricultural treasures from Sonoma County's rich past. The most prominent of these found objects is the hand-guided cultivator wheel & frame. I inverted this, and using its original supports, I mounted it on a disc-base stand. I added a cut-out plow disc for balance weight. Mid-way in the composition, I added two small feather-shaped disc blades, by trapping half of each's original bracket. My design-composition includes other accents : a barrel hoop and a small wheel, both at right angles to the large wheel; and two verticals echoing the lines formed by the supports.Roundness interacts with verticals developing very pleasing lines. Historical agricultural tools have another life. |
