This is a narrative piece that tells the story of a female heroine,
guide, protector, warrior for rights of the people.
She is been busted in three ways.
She has been broken & wounded in the struggle. She has been taken out of service, arrested by being placed on a pedestal.
She has become only a bust of her former self. This is a very weighty piece, in theme and physically. She is displayed with some of her accoutrements.
As often happens, this sculpture grew out of a central “found object”.
That piece of culvert was twisted, damaged by a great force. Now it is a bust of a female torso with lines suggesting a very sensuous back and maternal bust.
Designing and constructing a stable base as a pedestal was a satisfying challenge. The front and sides are one piece, and hook onto the back. The torso slips down into slots on the top. It can be moved by two strong persons.
This unique creation is a strong female presence. |
