This sculpture is about light, yellow and circles !
In 2010, the Press Democrat featured the first Gardens with Sculpture with a picture of Yellow Yellow in the garden.
I had been given 6 stainless steel & glass dryer doors, by an art loving couple who own a laundry.
As it sometimes is with very special & extraordinary “found objects”, I didn’t want to prematurely “spend” this treasure. Over time, I tried many different matches from my boneyard.
I found light captured by color on glass was dramatic... hence my first painted piece !
I planned a stack of 3 layers: painted glass doors, bike wheels, & hoops, all on edge, joined and circling the center pole. To lighten the weight for transportation, stabilize & simplify the look, I eliminated the bike wheels. I welded the four doors to the base, the central pole and each other.
The hoop unit slides on the pole, to sit on top of the doors & frames the painted bulb.
I am pleased with the way these parts dynamically interact, echoing
themes and unifying the composition. |
