Radiance

6x5x5"
Metal Assemblage
2014

$0.0000

I was delighted to find in a dumpster, a metal strip of repeating patterns of negative space, waste from a cutting job.

I treasure this "found object", which means that I hoarded this piece, rationed myself in its use.

I am drawn to this figure-like shape. I had constructed two similar ones for the sculpture Ad Astra, which if viewed as a narrative piece, can allude to seated figures. It makes an attractive abstract pattern in Palindrome. As a figurative reference, this shape has appeared in the Wall sculpture: Greeter, and Small sculptures:Sitting and now Radiance.

The name describes the actual radial pattern fanning out form the center circle. If the sculpture is viewed as a narrative, it could be personal energy radiating.

This series is a good example of how working with a shape generates many different creative expressions.
